Question:
What is the best laptop for me?

I'm looking into getting a laptop.

+ I'm very knowledgeable with computers

+ I probably will use it to surf the internet and download music (from Limewire) and burn CDS/sync them on my mp3 player

+ I'm used to Windows XP but I'm willing to try Vista. As long as it gets the job done

+ I'm NOT a gamer

+ I don't want a huge computer with a big ol screen

+ I want reliability. I'm going to be in college so if my computer crashes I'm going to be pissed!

+ I want one that isn't going to have update after update that's gonna cost me

+ Most importantly, I need it at a cheap price. I saw some at Best Buy and Wal-Mart for $399.99. I want to try to find one that's cheap but if I HAVE TO then I'll buy a more expensive one.

At $399, you can buy TWO. But yes, you can get a better computer for $800. You are brilliant.

I recommend Toshiba, and here's why. They are more reliable, have better tech support, are well made, have the built-in fingerprint security and you will have less trouble. YES, visit a retail store and look for a good deal. BUT ask about the return policy. You see, a brand new computer might have been broken during shipment to the STORE, so if you return it with NO hassle, you are in better shape.

My 2nd choice would be HP. But Acer and Compaq are OK.

Do your computer maintenance and you will have less trouble.

- run Disk Cleanup - from the System Tools section of Accessories

- Open My Computer, then Right Click on your C drive and pick PROPERTIES. Pick the Tools section and click on CHECK NOW. Check both tests, and YES, let it run after you restart. You see, CHECK DISK will ensure that your hard drive is working completely. This test might take an hour or so.

- run DEFRAG - from the System Tools section of Accessories.

Keep your anti-virus solution up to date, and run a full scan weekly.

Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search & Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com

Do all of this regularly, and your computer will run better.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

enable me preface via declaring that i'm an approved Dell and HP Reseller. I surely have no longer something against Macs in any respect. in actuality, i'm especially inspired via the present Macbooks. in case you like the Microsoft working equipment, the Dell Vostro laptop has been my modern-day %. for many suitable fee for lowend laptops. in my opinion, you're comparing apples to oranges. they do no longer discover ways to a minimum of one yet another as they the two have diverse reward. My professional opinion: Macbooks - good (outfitted on Unix platform), good courses, trouble-free, extra inflexible standards, extra useful video enhancing potential, skill to run XP incredibly much (utilising application). Dell Vostro - Comes with XP or Vista, versatile with application, a lot of hardware ideas, much less high priced. i decide to advise you communicate on your instructors first and ask what they are going to be utilising. finally, you will locate much less problems in case you whichever platform they are utilising.

You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092, since Toshiba makes the best laptops. I have one, and I would higly recommend it.

You sound like you need something very basic. How about this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8431725&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050045&id=1182557418537 or this http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-Aspire-14-1-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-3680-2682/sem/rpsm/oid/185211/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do I would recommed getting another 512 MB of RAM though.

My brother has this computer: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Compaq-Presario-15-4-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-F572US/sem/rpsm/oid/185304/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

For this one, you won't need more RAM. It's more than you expected to to pay, but its faster than my computer and cost less.
