I'm having problems with my Windows XP Laptop!!!?

I get the message: windows cannot start because the following file is lost or damaged: windows\system\config\32 . whenever i try the online help at microsoft.com, i get the message "access denied" when i use the 'help' in the recovery console. plus this is the third time i've gotten this error! I HAVE NOT GONE TO ANY BAD SITES. solutions and what might be causing this????!!!!

Could be anything. Rather than try and troubleshoot what the issue is, reformat your PC using the Windows CD (or recovery partition) and reinstall Windows, I know for a fact that will solve your problem. Unless you have done this before and it just keeps happening in which case there is another cause, but I'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

No 1: What computer do you have? ie - make and model



2: The OS - think you have win xp - but clarify



3: When do you get this message? Will windows start at all?



4: Do you have a recovery disk or a windows disk? Or disks supplied?



There are numerous reason for errors



Also are you able to get into windows at all? Or are you getting a message saying "We apologise but windows could not start------ etc etc"



Or do you get a blue screen error ?

also attempt out spybot S&D, which i like over AVG. Ccleaner is amazingly solid, so keep that. some belongings you may do is bypass into ccleaner->equipment->uninstall and get rid of the courses you do not use. You could try loading the Recovery console & try to access the info on a CD, if you have a friend that can put it on one.



C:\WINDOWS\system32\config is where many log & event files are stored. You may be able to fake it with someone elses files.



Otherwise, try to get your data out & reload the OS.

i don't have a specific answer, but you can start with this...your system 32 is what makes your computer run. it is the "heart" basically of your operating system. the "config" part is the configuration, so if it is lost or damaged then you are probably in trouble if you don't know much about computers. its a common problem your os is dead :( dont worry go to a local computer store they will reinstall windows for a small fee and they can save your files. p.s. if you have a windows disk that will decrese the fee and dont/quit putting magnets on your computer.

system file checker will solve your problem. try it before you reinstall. you have a missing or corrupt file. Xp has a utility for bring them back, system file checker...
