Major Computer Issues?

I have an Acer Extensa 4220 computer operating on Windows Vista. It has been running super slowly for a while and the sticker on it says it has a 80gb HDD (which I understand is the Hard Drive) yet it says in My Computer it only has 15gb in Drive C and another 15gb in Drive D which only adds to 30gb. I had another lot of memory added which I was told would speed up the computer which it did for a week. Then it had BSOD and had to be reset, now the drive information says it still only has 30gb in total and the supposed memory that was added isn't there. Then it had more problems and was supposed to be reset but it wasn't done properly and had to be done again. It is now running super slow and the simplest of tasks like scrolling down a word page puts the CPU through the roof and it freezes.

Is there anything I can do or should I just chuck it and get a brand new computer, a cheap notebook has more memory than this laptop.

Please tell me how to fix the problem or like I said should I just ask for a new one for Christmas?

P.S. Sorry for the long question!

This could be many problems combined or one, hard to say without a pro doing a full diagnostic. I recommend requesting one for Christmas. Good luck.

It could be a virus, try getting an anti virus like Avira, (it's free) and run that.
