I am going to high school next year and I wonder which computer platform is supported by most schools. I am planning to buy a laptop next year and I want to know whether I should get a MacBook or a Dell Laptop.

The gap is closing, for example my school uses a thin client solution and there soon will be a Mac client for connecting to the system. Overall I think you'd prefer the Macbook, purely because of OS X, it's so much more pleasing to use than Windows, it's more stable on the whole, way better experience using it, it's way better designed than Windows and you can see all over where Windows has tried similar and failed. It works when you need it to always which I find Windows always fails to do. There's certain issues always raised about the build quality of the macbook, while I've seen these with my own I'd hardly call these issues, it's just like where the top half of the case plastic can be pressed in a few mm where there's no screw etc. Another thing is that some subjects are specific, for example I know a lot of people who just took A Level Music Technology and as a result are going to buy Macbook Pros or iMacs to run Logic Pro, so some aspects of your school work may require one or the other. Obviously you can still run windows on a Mac properly using Boot Camp or you can use Parallels or something similar which lets you run Windows within OS X (what I do when I need to).
Pancakes.

Most likely PCs. . .in my school and other schools I've been to use HP computers. . .but in the university I will be attending use IBM/Lenovo PCs & Apple PCs. . .

What I'm trying to say is. . .it depends on the high school. . .but. . .my guess is PC

1. Which OS will offer a more "all-around" user experience out of the box? Mac or Windows?

Mac is you mean stability. . .or Windows XP. . .not Vista. . .

2. Which OS will have better software and be more user-friendly?

Windows. . .

3. Which OS will be more safe and secure from viruses and pop-ups?

Mac since it is less popular. . .however. . .Windows is also safe if you install Internet Security software. . .

4. Can I get either a MacBook or Dell laptop for under $1500?

Yes you can. . .you can get a 2GHz Macbook for $1149 (CDN). . . and as for Dell. . .it depends what kind of laptop you want, but I am certain you can get Dell XPS M1330 for less than $1500. . .as well as Inspiron, Studio, Vostro, Latitute laptops. . .so I guess it depends on what the configuration is. . .
