Toshibas usually come with a CD/DVD restore disk !

The way to do a complete reinstall of the system (you will lose everything on it and get back to a "like new" machine) is:

1) While the system is on, Insert the restore CD/DVD

2) Once disc is inserted, SHUTDOWN the SYSTEM

3) Once you turn the system back on and just when the red Toshiba logo appears, access the BOOT MENU by tapping "F12" ( You may have to try a few times as it is tricky )

4) Look for the option that says "CD/DVD", highlight it and press ENTER. The system will be booting on the disc saying "LOADING FILES"

5) Once recovery has started, choose the First Option that will popup.

Recovery will run for about 30 - 45 minutes.

Doing the recovery is just like following a set of instructions, as long as you dont press cancel or no, it will continously load windows on your system.

Before starting your lap, To enter the BIOS on a Tecra, hit the ESC key as soon as you see the Toshiba flashscreen in red. When prompted, hit the F1 key. & then choose your 1st boot as cd rom & 2nd boot as HDD.Then pop windows XP cd & restart & hit enter few times.Choose the quick setup with usually the NTFS format ( on the 1st option). Then install & put serial ID.It will be brand new.As for old files either you can put it on external Hard drive (HDD) or simply go to Wnidows Live SkyDrive.com.Where you get free 25Gb of space with hotmail account.Or go to Humyo.com or adrive.com.If you still need help then sign up your laptop with protonic.com .They will send you email replies upon giving them more details.Hope that helps.

i do no longer think of that removing the battery could do any sturdy! workstation manufacturers are actually not that dumb anymore, They tighten their protection measures quite for laptops by way of fact the are those maximum in all threat to be stolen actual. ok, enable's say the guy is asserting the reality and that he did no longer set any password: i think of Toshiba could be making use of a default password for the BIOS. seek for it on your consumer's instruction manual. If there is not any default password, this suggests that the two the guy is mendacity or he offered a stolen computing gadget which he does not comprehend the password!
