The Windows installation on my Thinkpad managed to totally screw up, so I headed over to my ThinkPad recovery partition. Then it turns out that the partition won't start up either! I'm using my Linux installation right now, but I still need to have Windows available to me.
I made a ThinkPad rescue and recovery DVD and CD (it needs 1 DVD and 1 CD), but the CD has gone missing. However, my former roommate has the same model of ThinkPad that I have (Thinkpad T43). If he created a recovery DVD and CD pair would it work on my laptop?

it should work ok,, as long as you hvave the ID key number, it as to be different from your former room mate's number or you will have problems updating windows to sp2 and other from MS updates website..

If he has the same model as yours, it will definitely work.

Where people run into major problems and can't understand why, is using, say a Dell, recovery CD to try to install Windows on some other computer.

Creating a recovery CD probably wouldn't work as that stores information that is spacific to the computer, but if he has the origonal Windows CD that came with it, you can use that to re-install.

Atleast I'm assuming. I know with Dells you can use the XP install CD on any system that has 'dell' in the bios.
