Help me please, I must decide between a mac or windows laptop?

Question

My dad strongly suggests i get a mac cuz many of his friends all tell him that mac is better.

the reason Im against it is im more familiar with windows and also the cost difference.

My dad counters that by saying that the one person who told him mac is better is he bought windows laptop but it only lasted 5 years. so in long run mac is a safer choice.

im aware of the whole mac cant get a virus.

Do all macs have great processors?I'll mainly use laptop for school work and internet browsing as well as video watching. For the price of a mac, I DO NOT want constant "The page is not responding" just cuz I opened several internet pages (im using my dad's old windows vista :/)

While this question is a war in itself. The answer depends on you. I will start this by saying I prefer windows and will try my best to give you a fair answer. The strait ans simple answer is... Are you and artist? Do you intend to do graphic design, video or music editing? If so then I would go with a mac.



If not, you must justify the extra cost. It is true that macs are less susceptible to viruses. This is not because they're better, it's because the most common viruses are created to make money. Windows has a much larger market share. Macs can and do get viruses. (again, not common.) They are also much more expensive than their hardware equivalent. So you must know your going to spend at least %50 more for a mac with the same power as a PC.



Most opinions are the fans of wither saying ones better than the other. So honestly, these are mine. I find most of the mac support is based on opinions of trendyness. A mac is cooler than a PC. The above paragraph states a couple facts that are obviously pro PC (minus the graphic design stuff) Besides those, their basically the same. When I get an order for a computer for an employee of a company. I see what their job is. Graphics I choose Mac, anything else PC.

Windows 8 definitely faster than Windows 7. If you want Start menu, the upcoming Classic Shell 3.9/4.0 has closely mimic the Windows 7 Start menu.



For your everyday use, I advise to get a laptop with 4GB or more RAM, a 2GB or more dedicated memory GPU/display card, and Windows 64 bit.



There are new Mac with Intel processor inside, so there will be not much different between PC and Mac on this matter. It's more about taste (UI) and software titles availability.



And, if you really care about style (to show off to your dad), get a stylish Vaio.

Macs use the same hardware as good Windows laptops. The reason people say Mac is better is because they buy one for 3000 dollars and think it's good, and then buy a 300 dollar Windows computer and say it sucks. A Windows laptop can be very good, and usually better, for much less than a Mac. Shop around and find a good one.

Mac use the same Intel i3, i5, i7 processors that every other Intel Manufactured computer use at half the price, If you do some research you will find that the PC/Laptops are a higher specification than the Macs are, again at half the price, ask you dad to do a Google search for > Mac customers complaints < that will open his eyes,

I would get a Windows. You can then build a good desktop, throw in Windows 7 (best OS ever), and it'll destroy any Mac it faces. Plus, it only costs around $1000 to get a really good desktop.



Mac's are over-priced and you aren't getting great hardware. You are only paying for the name.

I have had both and the Mac is far superior to a regular PC. The graphics capabilities is astounding, the processing speed amazing and the ease of operation is incredible. I've had two Macs and one laptop. This laptop (PC) is a piece of crap compared to a Mac.
