I have roughly 800 bucks and I'm looking to buy a laptop. I'm a senior in high school so I'll be doing a lot of paper writing. I'll watch movies/tv shows and listen to and download music on it as well. My little brother will probably use it to play games and stuff on it too. I'm just wondering what I should purchase to get the most out of my money and so it can do everything I need it to. I'd also like to know what kind of processor, memory, etc. I should get, as far as that stuff goes I'm clueless. Thanks for the help!

Try NOT to get a gaming computer - I'm sure your intentions are good, but you want that little brother to have fewer reasons to "borrow" your computer, right?

The problem with getting the most for your money is...that it you will spend the most.

Your requirements sound minimal, but expect to spend $100 - $200 for product protection plan (if that's what you want). Honestly, I don;t even know why you want a laptop since a desktop will get you the same power for less.

A lot of answers here will simply say "dell" or "HP" or "macbook".

I'm not going to do that. Rather, I'm going to tell you how to shop for yourself.

When it comes to buying a laptop, there’s no substitute for doing your own shopping. I suggest that you visit every online retailer you can think of and compile every system you find onto a list.

Every laptop on that list should include details that matter to you. Some obvious ones: retailer, make/model, cpu (there are at least 2 variants for the i3 & i5), weight, price (both actual & with buyer support) & graphics. (Hard Drives for the i3/i5 systems are almost always either 320gb or 500gb; RAM is almost always 4gb of DDR3). I suggest you put this list on an Excel spreadsheet so you can re-sort the list based on different factors.

Hi there,

You should check out the Sony VAIO EB. It is a great laptop for productivity and entertainment because it has a fast processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of hard drive space. It has a great screen for watching movies. You can also customize the look of your laptop and upgrade to dedicated graphics if you need them.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

Isabella

You can buy a decent laptop for around $400 there is really no need to spend that much, Bestbuy has a great selection with great prices, I bought a acer brand and have been very satisfied.
