Question:
How do I play my mp3 thought my laptop speakers?

I have a input cord with both ends being 3.5mm jack. I plug it in to the input on my computer which has a mic icon next to the input on the computer. It does not work, and my computer is not muted the mp3 works with head phones. It doesn't work in the head phone jack either (I wouldn't expect it to cause its line out but you never know til you try).

When I plug the mp3 into the line in with the mic pic next to it a window pops up that says Sigma Tel Audio Control Panel. I don't know if i need a program to stream the music straight to the speakers or what?

I have heard of people recording the line in while they play their music and then playing the recording back but I want it to come straight from the mp3 to the laptop speakers.

I have a dell laptop with windows xp. I also have windows media player I don't know if that helps.

Plugging an audio cable into two computers that way is not going to let you play songs from one computer on another computer's speakers.

If you want to play the mp3 on your laptop, you have to put the mp3 on your laptop. Or you have to set up a network that will allow you to access the files on your desktop from your laptop.

Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot and you should get the message "new device found" see if windows can install it from the windows files. If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.
